1. Registration, login and personal details
You can register and login to post your memories and dreams the top left corner of site.
After you’ve registered, the password will be send to your e-mail account. You can change the password, update your profile and manage your account from your dashboard.
Remember what your memories will stay here forever under the name you provide, and this name can’t be changed later. You have an opportunity to be remembered under any name you like, though giving your real name generally makes it easier for your memories to be found in the future or by name search.
Please submit some personal information about you. It will make your posts more personal, and this information would be displayed under your post along with comments. It’s also in our plans to develop an engine which can visually represent all the data and metadata Memorycemetery contains, so you can explore site not only in chronological order or by random, but by predefined parameters such as a set of tags and/or personal information as well.
To see your gravatar (picture) displayed along your comments, visit www.gravatar.com and follow the instructions. You can change your personal data any time you like from your dashboard.
2. Writing, uploading images, files and publishing posts
Choose the tab “write post” from your dashboard.
Enter your dream or memory. If your post is a long one, please split your post, so first part of it would be displayed, and the rest could be accessed via link “read more”. To do so, use option “split post” (Alt+t), or button on the top of your editing window on the left from spellchecker. Add your name in italics after the post, so it could be easily found later by your name search.
There are some fields under your post you can fill in: add keywords and tags related to your post content (including images). It is generally a good idea to do so, as it makes easier to find your post and highlights what’s important by adding tags to the tag cloud and our Humankind’s message which we beam into outer space.
You can upload images to insert in your post from one of the fields under your post or insert them by clicking on it’s icon in formatting options of the text editor on the top bar. Please consider image size, as scaling the image in the editor window doesn’t reduce its actual size. If you use image editing software, such as Adobe Photoshop, reduce image size and resolution and save it for web (.gif format). There are also programs free to download which could do the job. These are free:
- Irfanview
- Picasa
- Photofiltre
Ideally it should be under 100 Kb to maintain fast pages’ download for users using dial-up connection. You can resize images manually in the editor after upload if you like. Drag the handles on the sides of the image and move it around your text to insert in the place you would like to see it.
Memorycemetery reserves the right to add or change tags and keywords and resize image if necessary. Contents of your posts would be not edited or alerted in any way, though we can delete or edit posts containing abusive, or not related content (such as spamming).
When you’re done, select your post category on the right side from your post.
Generally speaking, there are 3 categories: memories, dreams and void space, reserved for tidbits: thoughts, insights and just about everything else that don’t fit in other categories. Memorycemetery defines memory as a description of something what actually happened, and dream as something what could happen. Everything else goes into “void space”.
Choose ”post status” (published, draft, private) under categories menu.
Select ”published” if you want to see your post published immediately and “draft” if you want to edit it or continue writing later. As you already know, you can’t edit or alter your posts after they’re published. The reasons behind it are simple: it makes Memorycemetery an interesting place to belong to and wonder around, as it cuts off all minute and irrelevant. You can not delete your memories and dreams in real life either; but with the course of time we can interpret them in a different way. We beleive that storing your dreams and memories unaltered will help you to keep an honest account of your life. Don’t be stuck in your past. What done is done; there are so many things yet to come and write about.
You also can change your settings such as enable/disable comments and pings.
Here you can find information on writing posts in depth.
3. It’s all about being a human
Don’t take it as a serious matter.
Memories and dreams should not be something hard to live with. Enjoy writing. Share them with others. All the memories and dreams are equally important.
Regularly rest your memories.
“Reality” is the product of our interpretation.Contributing to this project means you can leave the better description of us and our times. Your our memories will stay here forever and will not be altered or erased. To be yourself is a basic human right, as freedom of speech. It will be not separated from you. Write truth as you see it. Wonder yourself beyond imagination. Transform your thoughts and feelings in words as you see it. And, of course. It’s all about being a human: it is your right to interpret reality as you see it and to be remembered or not the way you want it.
4. Join us
If you would like to contribute to this project, please read on.
Memorycemetery is not a commercial project. Think about it as about a gift. We treat it as if Memorycemetery doesn’t belong to anybody in particular, but all the Humankind. Let’s put it simple. What you see is just the tip of the iceberg, and the work just started. To make this space better, a lot of work has to be done, so your help will be highly appreciated. We need a hand with some Java and PHP coding, actually. If you feel like dropping a buck or two for site support and maintenance, you are welcome. Whatever the case, a place in our thankful memory and this site credits guaranteed.
What we need most is the contribution of your memories and dreams. It’s all about content really. Write posts. The more memories and dreams we will have, the more comprehensive portrait of the humankind will take shape. Help us to spread the word. We don’t advertise ourselves. If you like the idea of the site, please tell your friends about it: copy and paste link to the site: http://www.memorycemetery.com/about , send it to your friends and ask them to forward it further.
Thank you.
