A dog story

I had to drop my kid to a kindergarten yesterday. As I stayed up all night long, and couldn’t be bothered with taking a bus, we hailed a taxi. A dog was crossing a small street leading up to my son’s school, and then I could feel and hear a little bump. We arrived. I asked taxi to wait a minute to take me to work - I was running out of time anyway, and was about to be late.

Driving up that small street again, I saw a small cute hairball of a stray dog, laying in the middle of the road. Obviously, we hit a dog on our way. Driver stopped and went off the car. A local man - shopkeeper from a little street shop nearby was staying next to the dog, smoking. He spoke to the driver. The street was small, and it seemed like he was not happy with a dead dog on the street next to his establishment. That, not the dog, was his concern. There was no rubbish bin or anything in sight - it is just a narrow street, without even a pavement. While they were quietly discussing something, I looked at the dog. There was no blood or anything - like this dog was just taking a nap in the middle of the street. The conversation was about to be finished; the driver reached the dog. I started to suspect he is about to grab it and drop into the taxi’s boot, to discard the poor thing later on somewhere.

The dog was not dead - it opened it’s eyes.

THE MOON IS TOO BRIGHT!

This is a series of dreams I had and recorded in 2001, as I had them. Though time have passed, they still fascinate me - as they started all of sudden and finish abrupt - I had them every night for 4 nights in a row, and I have never dreamt about the Moon before or after, or thought about the Moon much.

6-9-01 - DREAM

The entire dream consisted of seeing a newspaper article titled, ‘THE MOON IS
TOO TOO BRIGHT!”
I saw a picture of the face of the moon, on which a portrait picture of a dark-haired woman in black and white was superimposed over the upper left hand side of the moon picture. The article went on to say that bacteria had been left behind on the moon by ‘visitors’ to the moon and was now at the flash-point. The picture then went animated and showed the bacteria reach a stage where it shifted forcefully in a jumping motion to the next area to it. I felt uneasy.

6-10-01 - DREAM

I dreamed last night that I was observing a bright greenish-white moon that had a large man’s face on it, the kind that people always say … “Oh, I can see a face on the moon”. It wasn’t like the first dream where a human being was super-imposed on the picture.
At the same time I felt like the man in the moon was observing me for some reason.

I see the moon,
The moon sees me,
God bless the moon,
And God bless me.

Art of pencil

I missed this guy by a chance - he left a few minutes before I left. So all what I know is what my wife told me. I am always interested in peculiar charachters, so I was very intrigued by his life story, out of Kafka’s books. This is the outline - at least as how I heard it, whatever if it’s true or not, only he, Rudolf Scepka, knows. Sorry if I got it wrong, Rudolf.

Though he lives now in Chon Buri, Thailand, making living playing bowling and tutoring locals on how to score statistically impossible scores in it (a secret technique, of course :) ), and being a local bowling legend - unbeaten even once, originally he is from Austria and spent all his life before retirement - over than 30 years making pencils. So after he retired, he switched his focus from making pencils to using them. Continue reading ‘Art of pencil’

21 December 2012: a doomsday for cows

I didn’t write here for a while. It’s not what I forgot all about it - but rather its in human’s nature: we loose interest in things with time passed. I was also busy with other things, and that should be enough of excuses. I was thinking about writing here more though, and it looks like time has come - I got a comment today on one of my posts, with an unknown kind reader asking me if I’m about to publish something else any time soon. I can’t call it a fame :), but deeply touched by this attention and interest. There’s also an urgent issue related to cows I can get out of my mind. So putting things aside, I’m about to roll up my sleeves. Let’s take a fact out of popular science, cook it with other ingridients, spice up with presumptions and hopefully make another post somebody else can enjoy reading as I enjoy writing.

Let’s start from a bit afar. Our planet have 2 magnetic poles, North and South ones, right? It’s a dipole. Below is the still image from Earth magnetic field, taken from the satellite video you can find here…

Earth’s magnetic field

Yes, I know it has nothing to do here. But its beautiful and so I did.

… It shifts every now and then, and magnetic field sometimes even “flips”, causing global catastrophes and over nasty things I don’t want even to think about. Just to give you a hint of an idea, have a look at other planets in our Solar system - such as Venus (which rotates in an opposite direction to all the other planets, therefore it was flipped upside down) and Uranus (which rotates on its side). It happened to Earth 780,000 years ago on a smaller scale, it happened before that, and though some people are advocating theory what it will happen again pretty much soon - even coming up with dates, such as December 21, 2012, based on Mayan prophecies and end of the Mayan calendar, it is an event which is hardly possible to predict on the basis of pure science. Why it happens and when it would is beyond my expertise or the scope of this article. If you are interested in, please refer to “Why Earth’s magnetic Field flip-flops” article, or September 26 issue of “Science” magazine.

The resources desribing Mayan prophecies are quite an interesting read. One resource is going as far as setting a timer… at the moment of writing it said 1527 days, 12 hours, 30 min., 2 sec. left for the Age of Transition to begin. It’s hard not to believe it. The poles are going o shift about that time, and it looks like the LHC scheduled their start after repairs at roughly the same time :), should you like to know has the Large Hadron Collider destroyed the Earth yet, you can visit this one.

The thing is, our North pole after 400 years of relative stability is shifting its location, and this movement rapidly accelerates. Continue reading ‘21 December 2012: a doomsday for cows’
